Smothers 'Pumped' to Receive Michigan Offer

Reistertown (Md.) Franklin 2016 WR Steven Smothers discusses his latest offer from Michigan, his visit schedule and more.

2016 wide receiver Steven Smothers received big news today when he received a big time offer from Michigan.

The four-star standout, who stars for Reistertown (Md.) Franklin, admitted he was surprised when he first heard the news that U-M defensive coordinator Greg Mattison called his coach with an offer from the Maize & Blue.

"[Mattison] called my coach," Smothers said on his Michigan offer. "I had the offer for a week or two [before he told me]. But my coach just told me today. I'm really at a loss for words. A big school like that offering is shocking.

"I was pumped, I mean, what more can I say? It's Michigan!"

Now that the Wolverines have offered the 5-foot-9, 150-pound prospect, Smothers has officially put U-M in his top-six schools of interest. In no particular order, he says his top-six schools are West Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee. And he also noted he will be visiting Ann Arbor this summer.

"I plan on visiting [Michigan] during the summer along with Oregon, Florida and USC," Smothers said. "[During my visit], I want to see how the players are treated, the football facilities and and education side of it all."
