Ferns Checks Out Rival Schools

St. Clairsville linebacker Brendan Ferns is one of Ohio's top 2016 prospects, and a player with an impressive offer list. He visited both Ohio State and Michigan last week.

There were several 2016 Ohio prospects participating in Sunday's Nike Football Training Camp in Columbus, including St. Clairsville linebacker Brendan Ferns.

Showing speed and the ability to change direction, Ferns (6-foot-3, 215-pounds) showed why he has put together such a great offer list. Last week, he visited both Michigan and Ohio State looking for more offers.

"The visit to Michigan was good, and I've been there a lot," Ferns said. "It was more to sit down and talk with Coach (Greg) Mattison about where we are in the recruiting process. He said he's not ready to offer right now, but down the line it could be coming."

"He said if I work on being more physical I would be a player he would love to have at Michigan," he added. "The Michigan offer would be great, especially having my brother already at Michigan. If I would go there, he would already have been there for two years, which would be a big help to me."

Ferns then headed to Ohio State to spend Saturday visiting the Buckeye program, before competing at Nike on Sunday.

"It was really good being at Ohio State, and I spent a lot of time with Coach (Luke) Fickell," he explained. "Later in the day, my dad and I sat down with Coach Fickell and we had a great conversation. Our relationship is really good, and I knew him from when they recruited my brother."

"I like Coach Fickell a lot, and we talked about Ohio State possibly offering," Ferns admitted. "He said they want me to come work out for the staff and get to know me a little better. I'm definitely going to get that done soon."

"I grew up in Ohio as an Ohio State fan, and it's only an hour from my home," he said. "This offer would mean a lot to me, so we have to see how things go."
