Oak Park (MI.) junior athlete John Kelly is one of the premiere players in the state of Michigan and in the Midwest. A team very much in the mix for his services is the Minnesota Gophers and they have been letting him know that he is a wanted man in the Twin Cities.
"I have been in recent contact with Minnesota," Kelly told GopherDigest. "Head Coach (Jerry) Kill Coach (Jeff) Jones and have been telling me how much they would love for me to be a Gopher. I am very interested in Minnesota and I love the coaching staff and the campus."
While the Gophers are aggressively pursing the 5-9, 180-pound dynamic playmaker, they are not the only ones as the in-state Spartans have been making noise in his recruitment. The No. 43 ranked running back and a three star recruit by Scout has the two Big Ten foes neck and neck for his verbal at the moment.
"It is kind of a tie with Michigan State, so they are both my leaders," said Kelly. "I haven't gotten it all laid out yet with visits for the summer, but I plan on getting back to Minnesota."
"I will commit on Signing Day," said Kelly. "The factors I'll consider will be how close I am with the coaching staff, honesty, playing time along with my family opinions as well."
With there being tons of time left in this race, Kelly wants Gopher fans to know to watch out for him because he could be the next best to don the gold and maroon."I would like to let all the Gopher fans to know I have nothing, but love for them and maybe I can be the next legendary Gopher," said Kelly. "Brick by brick and Go Gophers!"
