Pettaway talks MSU, Michigan

Eastpointe (Mich.) Southlake 2016 running back Martell Pettaway gives the latest in his recruitment.

HARPER WOODS, Mich. – Michigan State offered Eastpointe (Mich.) Southlake 2016 running back Martell Pettaway in early May. And with little over a month to digest his offer from the Spartans, the four-star RB admits MSU is still the leader in the clubhouse.

"They at the top right now," Pettaway said. "They were the first to[offer]. So they are at the top of the standings right now."

Pettaway received his offer from MSU coach Mark Dantonio during his camp visit with the Spartans.

"I liked it up there," Pettaway said on his MSU camp experience. "The coaches were real enthusiastic -- everybody was. I liked it up there. It was a nice experience at the camp, too."

While Pettaway hasn't been offered by MSU's main rival Michigan, he still does have interest in the Wolverines. He says he would like to camp Michigan's team camp next week. Although, he still hasn't decided if he will visit yet.

"I want to see if they can top Michigan State -- if they can," Pettaway said on his potential visit to Ann Arbor. "I want see how bad they really want me. I want to see what they can do coaching staff wise. How the players interact with the campers and all that." And if the Wolverines were to offer Pettaway, he was adamant they would still have some ground to make up with MSU.

"They would still be under Michigan State," Pettaway said. "Because I have been in contact with [Michigan] longer than Michigan State, and I still haven't got an offer. I went up there eight times, and still no [offer]."

Besides U-M and MSU, Pettaway says he might be camping at Wisconsin in the near future. He also noted what he will be looking for on future visits.

"I'm just looking for a school I can really connect with," Pettaway said. "I really want to vibe with the atmosphere at the colleges. I want to see how the players interact and the coaches coach."
