'I love everything about Notre Dame'
Sophomore linebacker Daelin Hayes knew an Irish offer could be in the forecast Friday night at Irish Invasion. But, how it all unfolded, he couldn't have anticipated. The four-star linebacker from Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's had a memorable last play of camp, to say the least. "I was dominating," Hayes said. "And, so at the end they put me up against one of the best running backs during one-on-one's. I batted the ball out of his hands, and the coaches went crazy. Coach (Brian) VanGorder, Coach (Bob) Elliott started jumping up and down and chest-pumped. It was pretty funny watching Coach Elliott because he's like 70-years old." "Jaylon Smith got pumped up about it too," Hayes said. "Then, Coach VanGorder, Coach Elliott and Jaylon all came over to me and told me they weren't letting me leave without an offer. Then, Jaylon did a little bit of recruiting on me, which was awesome." Hayes said he grew up watching Smith and views him as a role model. "I try to model my game after him," Hayes said. "He's so explosive, and it meant a lot to be coached up by him tonight." Hayes' only camp of the summer will be Notre Dame, who have definitely made a favorable impression. "I love everything about Notre Dame," Hayes said. "They will make me better as a young man and as a person." This was Hayes' second visit to Notre Dame this week. He visited campus last weekend as well. Hayes is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 7 outside linebacker in the class of 2016.
