Kelly Names Top Two, Talks Wolverines

Oak Park (Mich.) senior CB John Kelly names his co-leaders, his latest talks with Michigan and more.

Oak Park (Mich.) 2015 defensive back John Kelly is one of the top prospects from the Great lakes' State. And while multiple schools are showing him interest, he says Michigan State and Minnesota are his two leaders at the moment.

"Those two are definitely my two co-leaders," Kelly said. "I am also talking to Cincinnati a lot more, Ohio State, as well as Western Michigan. That's about it,. My recruiting process is still open. I'm just letting it all come to me."

Rated a three-star prospect, Kelly had strong showing at Sound Mind, Sound Body football camp earlier this month. During his two day camp performance, Kelly said he was able to rekindle his relationship with the Michigan coaching staff.

"I got a chance to talk with Coach Singletary a lot," Kelly said. "They were really impressed with me at Sound Mind, Sound Body. I've been in touch with them a little bit. We lost connection for a minute back in 10th grade, but as the 11th grade year was moving on they started talking to me a lot more. They are definitely a school of my interest."

With some renewed interest in the Wolverines, Kelly says a visit to U-M is real possibility.

"They are right in my backyard," Kelly said on the possibility of visiting Michigan again. "I wouldn't mind going up there and checking the school out.

"I would want to learn how they would use me on their team. I am really cool with a lot guys who go up to Michigan. Me and [Oak Park] coach Carter, we have a really good relationship with Devin Gardner. I just want to see how the coaching staff is and have a chance to talk to all of them individually, and see how they would utilize me on their team."

At 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, Kelly holds offers from Michigan State, Maryland, Minnesota, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.

"I am interested in whoever is interested in me," Kelly said. "So I will give anyone a shot who looks into me."

In the meantime, he says he is focused on having a stellar senior campaign.

"My last year I want to prove that I am the best player as well as the best teammate in the state," Kelly said. "I want to lead my team to the championship if I can. I also want to prove to everyone I am the best player in the state."
