Michigan Makes Smothers' Top-5

Reisterstown (Md.) Franklin 2016 wide receiver Steven Smothers named his top-five schools, his interest in the Wolverines and more.

Reisterstown (Md.) Franklin 2016 wide receiver Steven Smothers received his Michigan offer back in May, and while he hasn’t visited the Wolverines yet, he says the Wolverines are in his top-five.

“I would say my top-five schools are West Virginia, Alabama, Michigan, Florida and Ohio State,” said the four-star wide out.

“The Michigan offer is big,” Smothers said. “That’s a big time school. It’s a long time traditional powerhouse. That’s really big. Them and Ohio State, they are really a big deal to me, a powerhouse that’s been on top a long time. So I’m just ecstatic about the [Michigan] offer.” Smothers, who was offered by U-M back in May, says would like to possibly take a visit when Michigan plays host to Penn State on Oct. 11.

“I want to know how the people are down there,” Smothers said. “I have never been to Michigan. I have been in Detroit, but I haven’t been in Ann Arbor. So I just want to see how those people are. One of the biggest things, is to see how the alums are. The average school can give me football. It’s what can they do for me after football. … So just an alumni connect, which would be good for me after football.”

“If I can’t make to Michigan for Penn State,” Smothers said on a potential visit. “I will definitely visit Ohio State for the Michigan game.”

Smothers has already been on campus visits to Penn State and Ohio State this summer. He says he is hoping to check out Oregon, USC and Miami (Fla.) this fall.
