Italian Trip Itinerary
Michigan released the details Wednesday for its upcoming trip to Italy during which it will play four exhibition games. It's a trip that won't be just about basketball however. The Wolverines will also tour Rome, Verona, Vicenza, Venice and Lake Como and see historic sites like the Vatican, the Colosseum and Forum and the Spanish Steps.
"This trip would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors as well as the athletic department," said Beilein. "We are fortunate to have this opportunity to improve our team's growth and chemistry while still experiencing a foreign trip.
"It's a great opportunity for our young men to get a chance to learn a different culture, visit historical sites, bond as a team and play some quality completion. We learned and experienced a great deal from our Belgium trip four years ago, and we look forward to having more memorable moments."
One of the most memorable will be when they visit the United States Army base in Vicenza on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The stop will consist of lunch and dining with service members, meeting with soldiers, a U-M shootaround, and an autograph signing.
"The visit to the Army Garrison is going to be a special for us," said Beilein. "Any time we can give back, visit and speak with service men and women, it is a life-changing experience."

The Wolverines will be without the services of freshman power forward D.J. Wilson, who is recovering from surgery on his right pinky finger. He will be out 4-6 weeks, but will travel to Italy with the teams.
"This is an unfortunate injury for D.J.," said Beilein. "However, we have the best training and medical staff here at U-M, so we know he is in good hands. We anticipate a speedy recovery, so D.J. will be back and at 100 percent when we start our September workouts."
