Redshirt Freshman quarterback #10 Matt Linehan barks signals behind one variation of Idaho's top offensive line, with #78 Jesse Davis at tackle and #61 Steven Matlock at guard next to starting senior center #74 Mike Marboe, who was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the third year in a row.
Idaho's coaches are experimenting with numerous offensive line combinations in the early weeks of fall camp. The athletes we've seen most consistently with the starting unit are senior center and 4-year starter #74 Mike Marboe (about as close to a lock to start as you can get) and true sophomore guard Steven Matlock (61), coming off an impressive true freshman season. Giant sophomore #67 Mason Woods (6-9, 355) has lined up a lot with the top line at strong tackle. The biggest position battles appear to be at strong guard, in this variant manned by Jeff Travillion (6-3, 283), and weak tackle, with senior #78 Jesse Davis (6-6, 298) who is coming off an injury that kept him out of most of spring camp.
It probably isn't "fair" to say the emergence of converted quarterback #8 Joshua McCain as a potent wide receiver is a surprise, but he is looking like a natural out there and has since making the position change in spring camp. On this crossing pattern McCain is pursued by junior linebacker #10 Broc Westlake.
True freshman #76 Jordan Rose (6-6, 323), who has exhibited excellent speed for a big lineman, has his hands full with senior defensive tackle Quayshawne Buckley on this play. Rose has already seen significant time with the #2 unit, and has slotted in at both guard and tackle in the early part of fall camp.
