“They really want me to come up for a game, visit the school, and see what Michigan is all about,” Smothers said, who received his offer from U-M back in May.
“I am definitely going to try to get up there for a visit,” Smothers said. “I plan on checking them out when they play at Ohio State. I am going to look at their schedule and find a good game to go up there for a visit.”
Smothers, who is rated a four-star prospect, says he’s looking for a unique visit when he finally makes his way up to Ann Arbor.
“I just want to see how Michigan is behind the scene,” Smothers said. “I just want to see how Michigan is when nobody is watching. Really, the real Michigan. I want to see how the players are, the coaches are, and see how the whole Michigan football staff works. Just to see the real Michigan.”
At 5-foot-11, 155-pounds, Smothers suitors hail from all over the country, and even with double digit offers, he says the Wolverines sit firmly in his top-7.
“I would say if I had a top-7, they would be at six,” Smothers said of the Wolverines. “West Virginia is No. 1, Alabama is No. 2, Florida is No. 3, Tennessee is No. 4, Ohio State is No. 5, Michigan is No. 6, and Florida State is No. 7.”
As far as upcoming visits, Smothers says he plans on visiting Ohio State, Florida State, West Virginia, and some possible summer visit next summer to Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
Smothers says he would like to make his final decision known during his senior year by signing day 2016.
