Nebraska TE Commit 'Interested' in Michigan

San Roman (Calif.) California 2015 TE Matt Snyder discuses his Michigan offer, his talks with Jim Harbaugh, a possible visit to U-M and more.

A former Oregon State commit, Matt Snyder made the switch to Nebraska in late December when Mike Riley took the job as the Cornhuskers’ coach. Now, the three-star tight end is being tempted to switch his allegiance again, with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh extending an offer to the Golden State star last week.

“The original offer came from coach Harbaugh [last week],” Snyder said, who stars for San Roman (Calif.) California. “He called pretty early, I missed a call. He left a voicemail saying it was Jim Harbaugh. It’s exciting, he coaches up at Michigan. I was pretty excited and gave him a call back and he gave me the good news.”

Snyder admits the phone call from Harbaugh was surprising. But now that the Wolverines’ have offered, his interest in U-M is mutual.

“Everybody knows he’s been a great coach in college and the NFL, so getting a call just alone to talk to him for 10 minutes was a pretty cool thing,” Snyder said. “Obviously I’m interested in Michigan. It’s an exciting thing.”

With the offer now on the table, will Michigan earn a visit?

“Right now it’s just talks for the official visit,” Snyder said. “If I were to go, it would this weekend. So we’ll see. I’m going to try to get out here this weekend.”

And if Snyder were to visit, he said he would have to “fall in love” with Michigan to switch his commitment.

“Coach Riley and his staff have been recruiting me for a while now,” Snyder said. “I would really have to fall in love the place. Michigan’s academics have always been intriguing. And really just the coaching staff. They need a tight end. Not all teams utilize one. They would really just have to blow me away. I’m sure they can, but I really just have to go experience it for myself. It’s going to be a judgment thing.”

If Snyder does choose Michigan, Snyder says Harbaugh said with his size -- At 6-foot5, 245-pounds – he can fit in perfect into U-M’s offense.

“He said he’s running the same type of offense he ran at Stanford with the tight end’,” Snyder said. “He talked about the tight end’s he sent to the NFL and how he’s trying to build up a tight end Army again. That’s very intriguing and good thing to hear.”

Snyder also noted Michigan is the only school he considering besides Nebraska.
