Akingbulu 'Speechless' After Michigan Offer

Habor City (Calif.) Nathanial Narbonne 2016 OT Alec Akingbulu discusses his offer from Michigan, his thoughts on U-M's coaching staff, a visit to campus and more.

Rising junior Alex Akingbulu has been a prospect on the rise nationally. Just this week, he received some good news when Michigan stopped by his school -- Habor City (Calif.) Nathanial Narbonne - to extend an offer to the Golden State star.

“My coach talked to Michigan’s offensive line coach [Tim Drevno] and he said he wanted to offer me,” Akingbulu said. “I was pretty speechless. It’s something I never dreamed of.”

The offer for Akingbulu was unique, because it so happened to be his first.

“For right now, Michigan is the first one,” Akingbulu said. “The first of anything is really special. Of course Michigan being my first offer holds a place in my heart.”

At 6-foot-6, 250-pounds, it’s easy to see why Michigan is interested in the bruising offensive tackle. And is his interest in the U-M coaching staff seems mutual.

“I know they have a very good talented coaching staff,” Akingbulu said. “They have lost of experience. They know how to get you to the next level.”

Akinbulu went onto rave about Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.

“He has a very unique personality,” Akingbulu said of Harbaugh. “He just looks like a coach that you would want to play for. To be honest, he just seems like it would be exciting to play for him.”

Now that Akingbulu has his offer from the Wolverines, he says his next hop is possible visit to Michigan’s campus.

“Probably in the future I am going to come up for a visit,” Akingbulu said. “I probably want to see the whole campus as a whole. I want to see the whole football atmosphere. Also what they have to offer academically. Academics is a priority right now.” Akingbulu said he has also been in contact with USC, Boston College and Washington.
