Expert Analysis: U-M Hanging in for Davis South Regional Manager fielded questions from GoBlueWolverine’s Sam Webb about Michigan’s standing with some of the top prospects in his region. The focus of this portion of the interview is St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood WR Ryan Davis. Is Michigan a realistic threat to lure this talented youngster out of the Sunshine State?

Sam Webb:  There are a couple of guys that have been amazingly hot as of late and Michigan happened to get in on them.  One of them being Ryan Davis, a four star recruit out of St. Petersburg, FL, Lakewood High school.  What’s the deal on Ryan Davis and where does Michigan fit in that picture?

Chad Simmons:  “Again, I think they’re in that top group but I would say Michigan based on what I’m hearing has a little bit of a better shot maybe with Roquan Smith than Ryan right now.  I think Ryan ends up based on today, we still have six days ago, but what I’m hearing right now and early this week is that he ends up at Florida or Florida State as of right now.  Michigan is definitely in the discussion, in the game, but right now it seems like everything pointing to him staying…his brother played at Florida State, so that immediately gives them an inside there, ties to the family.  Obviously, it is an in-state school.  The school closest to home is the University of Florida and since Jim McElwain, they have made him a huge priority, saying that they need a guy like that in the slot, guy like him in the return game.  It’ll be interesting to see with his brother having played at Florida State, if Ryan went to Florida.  Michigan is definitely kind of hanging in there, but right now based on what I’m hearing, all signs point to him ending up at either Gainesville or Tallahassee, Florida.”
