In fact, Durkin offered Watts while he was at Florida. So naturally, Durkin made his way to Florida – again – but this time to offer Watts a scholarship to play for the Wolverines.
“They came by last Wednesday,” Watts said. “It was D.J. Durkin. He actually offered me when he was at Florida. He was talking to my head coach, and he was like ‘I’m going to offer anyway.’ Around lunch time he had talked to my coach. Then I talked to him and he said that he had offered me.”
“I really don’t have a top five right now, but Michigan is pretty high right now,” Watts said. “Especially now that they have the new head coach [Jim Harbaugh]. He’s a great coach and I love his style. I especially love Coach Durkin, because he’s a good coach. Last spring he was at Florida, he would come up to school and we would talk and stuff. So he’s a good coach.”
As of right now, Watts says he would like to visit sometime this summer.
“I would probably want to come after school is out,” Watts said. “When I go up there I just want to see the whole atmosphere.”
And when he does visit, he would like to finally sit down and talk with Harbaugh.
“I just want to hear that he’s going to take good care of his players that actually come there,” Watts said. “And that he helps them through as a persona and as an athlete. And that he can take us to the next level.”
But if you’re expecting a decision anytime soon, Watts says with all the react offers, no commitment is imminent.
“Whenever the time is right,” Watts said. “I had a deadline. But schools just keep coming in. So I’m just going to have to wait.”
Watts is rated the No. 29 CB and 293rd player in the Scout 300.
