Vindication, validation, and satisfaction.
Devin Funchess experienced all of those feelings during Michigan’s Pro Day. The junior wideout ran a disappointing 4.75 forty at the NFL Combine last month, causing some to question whether he would remain a likely first round draft pick. He erased all doubt about his speed in front of 30-plus NFL scouts Thursday running an impressive 4.48.
"Today was amazing,” Funchess told MgoBlue.com afterward. “(I) got that weight lifted off my shoulders. (I) just went out there and did what I do… played like me and ran like me. It was a good time."
Only Delonte Hollowell and Raymon Taylor turned in better forty times, running 4.34 and 4.42 respectively.
After Funchess the day may have provided the biggest assist for Devin Gardner. Michigan’s former signal caller is trying to break into the NFL as a wide receiver, but he wasn’t invited to the combine and thus couldn’t give NFL scouts a glimpse of how his physical skills might translate. He did so Thursday, posting a 4.62 forty and a 35.5-inch vertical.
