Corley Working at DB, Updates Recruitment

Detroit (Mich.) King four-star 2016 WR Donnie Corley discusses his off-season work at defensive back, reflects on his visit to Michigan, other schools of interest and more.

DETROIT -- Donnie Corley is already one of the best wide receiving prospects in the country. He already holds top offers from Michigan, Notre Dame and Michigan State among others.

That being said, that hasn't stopped him from putting in the work this off-season.

In fact, the four-star standout has been working on learning a new position group: defensive back.

"This year I have been playing DB and I'm trying to get better at it working with [LaVert Hill] and stuff like that," Corley said. "He's a good DB. So he can get me better."

While Corley admits he's still a wide receiver at heart, he does see the benefits of lining up on defense.

"Wide receiver is my first love," Corley said. "But if a school could offer for DB. They like tall DB's and stuff like that. So it could change something." Corley continued: "You could see a lot of NFL players they get paid a lot for being taller DB's. It's kind of like a good thing."

Currently, Corley says N.C. State has offered him as a cornerback and Vanderbilt has offered him as a safety.

Michigan Spring Game Visit

On April 4, Corley was on hand when Michigan played its annual spring game. The visit gave Corley an opportunity to talk with the Michigan coaches and see U-M's offense first hand.

"Just get around the coaches more and talk with coach [Jim] Harbaugh and coach [Jedd] Fisch," Corley said on his U-M spring game visit. "They talking about how they need some receivers. They are telling me that they need, so it's kind of like a good thing."

One thing Corley noticed was Michigan's willingness to throw it deep, and admits he could see himself in that style of offense.

"When I went to the game you could see that they air the ball out a lot," Corley said of Michigan. "They were throwing it deep. So they a lot of chances to make plays. Which that could be me out there. Your stats would be pretty good. They had a good eight chances they could've caught but they ended up dropping on 'go balls.' That could be me out there."

Other Top Schools of Interest

On Tennessee: "Tennessee is one of the highest schools," Corley said. "My whole family lives down there. It kind of gives them some ups on a lot of people. Just the facilities and the coaches, I love what they are doing down there. It could be a good place to go."

On Michigan State: "They are going to lose a lot of receivers when I get there. So I mean, they got couple receivers committed in my class. I'll get up there probably third or fourth receiver on the depth chart soon as I get up there. So that's kind of a good thing. And I have a good relationship with Coach [Mark] Dantonio."

Corley says USC, UCLA and Oklahoma are other schools showing interest. He says he plans on visiting Ohio State coming up.

As far as a commitment timeline, Corley said: "It's kind of one of those situations where I kind of want to do it before the season. Then again, I want to take some officials too. I'm not really decided yet."
