Michigan to Host Xavier in Gavitt Tipoff

As part of the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff, Michigan will host Xavier out of the Big East in November.

The Big Ten and Big East are set to clash early in the non-conference in the 2015-16 season as Michigan is set to play host to Xavier on Friday, Nov. 20 as part of the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games.

The eight game series will take place over a period of four days with the Wolverines and Musketeers providing the final match-up at Crisler Center. Game times and broadcasting rights are to be determined and announcement at a later date.

Michigan and Xavier have squared off three times in the past, the Wolverines are 3-0 in the series. The last time Michigan took on the Musketeers was during the Wolverines 1989 national title run, winning 92-87 in the NCAA Southeast Regional first round in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michigan also defeated Xavier in 1973 and 1984.

The Musketeers are coming off a very successful 23-14 season that included a 9-9 mark in conference and a Sweet 16 appearance after wins over Ole Miss and Georgia State. Xavier's season came to an end at the hands of Arizona, 68-60.

The game will also serve as a homecoming for former Livonia (Mich.) Stevenson forward Jalen Reynolds and former Detroit (Mich.) Country Day star Edmond Sumner. Reynolds is coming off a tremendous sophomore season, averaging 9.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game shooting 61-percent from the field.
