Scout TV: Beilein Breaks Down Hatch Decision

Michigan coach John Beilein detailed the decision to put Austin Hatch on medical scholarship, ending a very short but memorable playing career with the Wolverines.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach John Beilein had decisions to make as it pertained to the future of current freshman Austin Hatch.

A two time plane crash survivor, Hatch left a lasting impression on an otherwise disappointing 16-16 Michigan team in the 2014-15 season.

Hatch scored the first and only points of his career on a free throw in a December win over Coppin State. But Hatch's future isn't all about basketball and with that in mind a decision was discussed and ultimately made to move him to a medical scholarship while also pursuing a role as an undergraduate student assistant with the Wolverines.

Looking to spend more time on academics and figure out the right major for him, Beilein calls this move a win win and detailed some of the thought process in the video below.
