Harbaugh Sets Sights on 2017 NY QB

With his quarterback commitment already locked up for the 2016 class the Michigan coaching staff has turned its attention to its 2017 targets. The latest addition to the board is West Sayville (N.Y.) signal caller Jack Coan.

When Jack Coan woke up Tuesday morning he had no idea of the news coming later on that day. The West Sayville (N.Y.) sophomore quarterback received word from his coach that he was a wanted man in Ann Arbor.

“My coach was on the phone with Coach Harbaugh and he came and found me in school,” Coan told The Michigan Insider. “He gave me the phone and Coach Harbaugh told me they were going to offer me. I was very excited. I’m very thankful and excited about receiving an offer from Michigan.”

“I thought it was pretty special (receiving the offer from Coach Harbaugh).  Long Island is not typically a hotbed for recruiting, so to have Coach Harbaugh offer me was pretty cool. I am very interested in Michigan. I’m excited to get to know Michigan better and visit there.”

The same can be said for a number of his other suitors. This off-season has been anything but quiet for the 6-3, 190-pound gun slinger.  Multiple schools have turned up the heat for his services by either offering or expressing interest.

“I’m in the process of starting to schedule visits,” he said.  “I haven’t set up anything for Michigan yet. I also don’t have a top list yet either. Michigan is my latest offer. I have offers from Miami, Stony Brook, Syracuse and Maryland. I think Rutgers is coming to watch me throw sometime next week. (Connecticut) came and visited (Monday) too.”

So is it that has schools so intrigued by Coan?

“I’d say I’m a very smart player who makes good reads and has good footwork in the pocket,” said Coan. “I’d also say that I can improve on every aspect of my game.”
