Dunaway Putting on Recruitng Hat

Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice 2017 TE Carter Dunaway discusses his plan to recruit players to Michigan.

Sophomore tight end Carter Dunaway committed to Michigan earlier this spring. Now with his recruitment behind him, he says his focus now is getting the best players from Great Lakes state to join his class.

"It's been a while since I committed," he said. "I've enjoyed that process being done with recruiting. I'm just enjoying it with my family. Now I'm trying to help out with recruiting. A lot people ask how I am going to help out with the 2017 class. With the meeting coming up on June 2 it will be good to help out the coaches anyway I can with recruiting."

With top in-state sophomores Donovan Peoples-Jones, K.J. Hamler and Josh Ross invited to Michigan on June 2, Dunaway says his plan to show them why Michigan could be the place for them.

"Obviously I can't be too kind to them, because we are enemies right now," said Dunaway, who stars at Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice. "But I definitely want them there. I am going to tell them the reason why I committed. I am going to tell them about the school and everything. I want to see where their head is at with other schools and where Michigan stands with that. I can work of that depending on what Michigan can offer them."

Moving Forward

"I'm going to Michigan's camp for a couple days," he said. "Over the summer I am going to keep working out with Michigan Elite. I don't know if I am going to do anything major. But Michigan Elite is where my head is right now."

Individual Growth

At 6-foot-6, 235-pounds, Dunaway is looking to make major strides in his final two years of high school.

"I'm just working on gaining a lot of weight and muscle,: he said. "Because I am going to need that obviously at the next level. Also keep my speed up. I need to stay as fast as possible. But yeah, just working on all my tangibles. That's what I am doing right now."

While Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh recruited Dunaway to play tight end, he's not opposed to playing another position if he continues to mature physically.

"He's sees me as a tight end right now," Dunaway said of Harbaugh. "In often cases the tight end will switch to tackle or guard. He says that could happen depending on how I fill out. He said it all depends on your form and your body shape and how it fills out. But right now he sees me as a tight end."

Reason he Committed

In the end, Dunaway knew Michigan is where he wanted to be.

"I have always been a Michigan fan my whole life with my dad and brother going there. And always going to the games and everything. I always knew that this is where I wanted to be. With Coach Harbaugh there it added a lot. I feel it's going to be a great season for them He's going to great things for the program. So when he offered me I knew I was ready to go."
