Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech sophomore safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell along with several other of the Great Lake State’s top sophomores traveled to Ann Arbor Tuesday for a special recruiting event. They’d all visited Michigan previously, some numerous times, but according to Kelly-Powell there was something new and different about this visit for each of them.
“My visit went great,” Kelly-Powell told The Michigan Insider. “We mostly took a tour of the whole campus with Coach Harbaugh. It is very rare to see the head coach give a tour of the school and that was great.”
“To me honestly, he is a great guy who really loves his players. He really has a big relationship with them personally. He mostly talked to me about he really likes me working hard in the classroom and wanting me to strive to become great too.”
The interaction with the Wolverines’ headman certainly was clearly the most memorable aspect of the talented youngster’s time in Ann Arbor, but there were a number of other things that stood out also. One experience made a particularly strong impression.
“My favorite part of the visit was seeing the law library because I would love to major in law,” said Kelly-Powell. “The library was beautiful and big. Everything in there looks like history.”
After further examining the Maize & Blue and what they all have to offer Kelly-Powell now sees Michigan in an even more favorable light.
“I would give this visit a 10 (out of 10) because I got the chance to meet Coach Harbaugh and mostly every coach showed a lot of love to my family,” said Kelly-Powell. “Also, Coach Harbaugh was giving the tour.”
“My family was amazed about what Michigan really looks like and they loved the campus. They thinks he’s a really good coach who cares about his players being successful.”
One of his teammates, 2016 offensive lineman Mike Onwenu committed to Michigan yesterday, making the Wolverines even more enticing.
“I am very interested in Michigan,” said Kelly-Powell. “I would like to see me and big Mike dominate together.”
