Then, of course, he received a surprise offer to play football for the University of Michigan. An offer that took McCall by “shock,” he says.
“I did not know it was going to happen,” he said of Michigan offer. “We went up there. They gave us a tour. We went to the stadium, we atenand watched some film and they came up to me and said ‘You’re a great kid and we want to offer you.’ I was like, ‘wow’”
How exactly did he react? “I was shaking. I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
McCall’s offer came personally from U-M offensive line coach Tim Drevno, who already had made a good impression on the freshman standout at Sound Mind Sound Body last week.
“He’s exciting,” he said of Drevno. “At Sound Mind, Sound Body he seemed like a coach I could count on. I respect him a lot.”
Currently, McCall has offers from Michigan and Akron, and maintains he is in no rush to make a decision.
“I’m just going to wait it out and see what else comes through,” he said.
However, Michigan is very much in play, considering they have already offered his high school teammate 2017 lineman Jaraymond Hall, McCall admits.
“Oh they’re on the map,” he said. “It’s a whole new (ballgame) now. They know we’re the most dominant players. That put them on the map even more”
Did you and Hall talk about what it might be like to play together at Michigan?
McCall said: “Oh yeah. I’d be a guard and he’d be a tackle -- and Go Blue!”
And the excitement didn’t stop there, McCall’s parents were happy with offer as well.
“They were very excited,” he said. “They couldn’t believe it either. They were just excited.”
