N.J. Lineman Talks Michigan Offer

Camden (N.J.) 2017 offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz discusses his latest offer from Michigan and more.

Rising sophomore lineman Cesar Ruiz is gradually becoming one of the more sought after prospects form the east cost.

Already with notable offers from Alabama, Arizona State and Virginia Tech, Ruiz took in a visit this past weekend to Michigan to see what the Wolverines had to offer.

“The visit went great,” Ruiz said. “The first day we got there we ate. We got a little tour. We got to go on the field. And then we stayed with our host (David Dawson’s) house.

“And then the next morning they had everything planned for us. The first thing they showed me and Naseir Upshur was the academic center and we met (our potential) consoler and she explained how she is going to help us find the right degree. We’re going to have the right degree to be able to find a job with.”

Ruiz, who stars at Camden (N.J.) High, then had film session with offensive line coach Tim Drevno. That’s when Drevno made a “shocking” offer to the Garden State standout by offering a football scholarship to Ruiz.

“It was funny how got the offer,” Ruiz said. “I was film with Coach Drevno. We were just watching film, and he was evaluating my film, and he was telling me some things I have to work on. Then he paused my film and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I want to let you know you have a full scholarship to Michigan.’ I was like shocked, I was like ‘whoa.’ The film session wasn’t even over yet. I was just really excited and really happy.”

Now that he has offer from the Wolverines, where does this rank Michigan in Ruiz’s recruitment?

“Michigan really, really impressed me this weekend,” Ruiz said. “I was really, really impressed. So Michigan is going to stay high on my list.”

With his Michigan offer now under his belt, Ruiz says he has also talked with current Michigan defensive back and New Jersey native – Jabrill Peppers – on his thoughts on playing at U-M.

“He was just saying Michigan is where it is at,” Ruiz said of Peppers. “He was talking about how we are going to get great coaching. And the new coaching is really good and is going to be there for a while. So that sounded sweet to us.

“I’m starting to feel the (New Jersey connection). Coach Partridge, the recruiting coordinator is actually from Jersey. So it’s high level of comfortability when we are there. And when (Ronald Johnson) pilled the trigger, I think other Jersey people will as well or some other east coast people.”

Coming up, Ruiz says he will be Alabama, Ole Miss., and Auburn July 12-16.
