Michigan Athletics Make Move to Nike, Jordan Brand

Michigan athletics announced its move to Nike athletic apparel company today starting August 1, 2016. U-M makes the move after spending the past eight years with Adidas. The move to Nike will be made by all of U-M's 31 athletic teams, and will also include the Jordan Brand "Jumpman" brand as part of the deal, which will apparel the men's and women's basketball teams.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan is wearing the infamous swoosh once again.

University of Michigan announce per release, that U-M’s athletic department has reached a deal with Nike to supply all of Michigan’s 31 athletic programs with uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment today.

Michigan’s deal with Nike starts on August 1, 2016, and runs through 2027, with option to extend the deal through 2031. Financial details of the deal are expected to be released on July 13, per U-M spokesman.

“After careful consideration, the right partner for the University of Michigan was NIKE," said interim athletic director Jim Hackett. "This decision, this partnership is about more than Michigan athletics; at the core, it is about our University community and it is about two great names reuniting for an opportunity that speaks to more than uniforms and apparel.

“NIKE is a recognized leader in its field when it comes to product innovation and we look forward to future collaboration.”

The deal with Nike also includes the use of the Jordan Brand “Jumpman” and footwear for the U-M’s men’s and woman’s basketball programs.

Michigan’s deal with Nike reunites its athletic program with the worldwide sports equipment apparel company for the first time since their last deal ended in 2007.

U-M, who has partnered with Adidas since 2007, will continue to work with the brand for the duration of the contract till July 31, 2016.
