When Michigan plays host to its annual recruiting bonanza -- The Barbecue at the Big House on Aug. 2 –top 2017 safety J’Marick Woods says he will be there.
In fact, Woods, who stars at Florence (Ala.) High, will be coming up with fellow teammate – 2016 LB Erroll Thompson – as both of them will be checking out U-M for the first time.
“I just really want to tour the campus,” Woods said. “I want to talk to the coaches and everything. I want to build a nice little relationship with them.
“They have just been telling me they would love to have me up thee for a visit,” Woods said. “So I guess I’m going to visit.”
Woods, who was offered by Michigan shortly after his spring game, says U-M was his first offer, which he notes will always have a “soft spot” in his recruitment.
“It was really surprising,” he recalled on his U-M offer. “I wasn’t really talking to them or anything. That was my first offer. I was really happy and excited.”
Adding: “It feels good to know they were the first school to really see my ability and everything. So there is a soft spot for Michigan (he laughed).”
While on his visit, Wodds says he hopes to have a sit down with coach Jim Harbaugh.
“I know Coach Harbaugh has experience in the NFL,” woods said of the Michigan headman. “He knows what he is doing, obviously. I would like to talk to him about how they would use me if I do come up there.”
Currently, Woods has offers from Michigan and Kentucky. Beside his planned tripped to Michigan, he says he will be taking a visit to UK sometime next week. Also, he has been on campus visits to Alabama and Ole Miss.
