Dytarious Johnson was on hand for Michigan’s dominating 31-0 win over then No. 22 BYU last month, but unlike most observers, he wasn’t shocked by what he saw on the field.
“No, not really, I figured they would get the hang of it after a couple games,” said Johnson, who stars at Prattville (Ala.) High. “You know, they got a new coach and a new offense and all of that. So they were probably getting readjusted to it (after the Utah loss.)”
Committed to Michigan since June, this was the first time the three-star linebacker got to see a U-M game in person.
“It was a big environment, a lot of fans,” Johnson said. “You can tell there is a lot of people that care for that team and organization. It was pretty wild.”
While Johnson will line up at linebacker when he suits up for Michigan, he admits, it wasn’t the linebackers he was watching during the game, but a certain defensive back.
“I was mainly looking at Jabrill Peppers,” he said. “Because he’s explosive and he’s a playmaker and is around the ball a lot.”
As far his next visit to Ann Arbor, Johnson says that is still in the works, but will be up sometime soon this season.
“I know I’m coming back up there, I just don’t really know when,” he said. “My mom and I are talking about it.”But when he does visit again, he says it won’t be looking for anything particular: “Just another opportunity to hangout with the coaches,” he said.
