Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2017 safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell was on hand for Michigan’s 38-0 victory over Northwestern on Saturday, and talked with The Michigan Insider about his visit.
“It was pretty good,” he said of U-M visit. “I went up there with my uncle and cousin. We know (Michigan is) actually doing good now, so I went up there to see how it was.
“Actually, I got to see Jim Harbaugh for the first time in person, and I talked to Coach Jackson too.”
What is his initial reaction in meeting Coach Harbaugh?
“I like him,” he said of Harbaugh. “I really do like him a lot. I see that he’s changed the program around very quickly.”
Kelly-Powell’s game experience also gave him an opportunity to checkout a former Cass Tech star, Jourdan Lewis, who has been a pivotal player in U-M’s current three game shutout streak.
“I like it a lot,” he said of Michigan’s defense. “Especially Jourdan Lewis becoming the No.1 cornerback in the country surprises me.”
As far as Michigan is concerned, Kelly-Powell says there is few things of interest that already sticking out in his recruitment.
“Academics, and Jim Harbaugh is great guy,” he said. “And the coaches, I have a lot of fun with them, talking to them.”
Kelly-Powell says he won’t be in Ann Arbor this Saturday when No. 12 Michigan plays host to in-state rival No. 12 Michigan State, instead he says he will be watching from a far with a neutral attitude.
“I am going to approach it whoever wins, whoever wins,” he said of the Michigan-MSU game. “It will be a tough battle, that’s what I believe.”
Upcoming, Kelly-Powell says he might be visiting Ohio State this Saturday and possibly Kentucky in the future.
