Kansas Commit Marquis Smith Talks Michigan Interest

Last Friday The Michigan Insider made it out Ypsilanti (Mich.) high and 2016 ATH Marquis Smith take on last year's championship runner-up Saline (Mich.). The Kansas commit couldn't keep his team in it, as Ypsi fell 48-18 versus one of Michigan's best teams, but he showed why he has suddenly appeared on the Wolverines' radar.

Game and Recruiting Notes

At 6-0, 170-pounds Marquis Smith is not the biggest guy on the field, but he plays with a lot of heart and effort. He literally was the show for the Ypsilanti. On offense he played wide receiver and quarterback, but didn't have much room to operate as Saline swarmed him all game long. When he did get any room, he showed many great moves and speed to have the crowd in awe and the defenders whiffing at him. On defense he played up man to man at corner and made several tackles. His speed made it almost impossible for the Saline wide receivers to create any separation.

On the recruiting front, Smith told me he is still solid with Kansas and likes what they've got going on there. He ldid say schools are still contacting him. Right now, he told me he holds 10 offers and visited Michigan the past two weekends. I could tell he was very interested in the Wolverines because he really perked up when talking about getting the chance to watch a game in the Big House. However, he said it would have to take a lot for him to not go to Kansas, but he is a prospect to watch going forward.
