Branch in LA

GBW reported earlier that Cibola High School (Albuqurque, NM) standout defensive lineman Alan Branch was competing in a basketball tournament this week in Las Vegas, then moving on to Los Angeles this weekend. I had a brief chat with his basketball coach Friday afternoon.

Alan Branch (U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-6, 305 lbs., 5.2 in the 40, 4.65 in the shuttle, 2.5 GPA/17 ACT) is in Los Angeles this weekend for the Adidas Double Pump Best of Summer Slam Basketball Tournament being held at Loyola Marymount University. I spoke to Ed Little, coach of the New Mexico Huskies earlier.

"Alan is a great athlete and a fantastic person. We are trying to keep him here in New Mexico but a place like Michigan is hard to beat, you just can't compare the two programs. His father played for New Mexico so we're hoping that may be a factor in keeping him home, but he's so good it may be impossible." Coach Little said, he added, "A lot of people see Alan and immediately think he's a big, lumbering, slow body, but that's just not the case. He has quick feet and is fast for someone his size. When people actually see him play they are amazed at how mobile he really is."

I'll be heading down to LA this morning (Sat) to get a look at the big man himself. I'm also going to try and make it by the Elite 11 Football Camp and if succesful, will have something about that as well in the near future.
