S.C. LB Lawrence Timmons

With instate linebacker Roger Allison in the U-M fold, the Wolverines may be looking for one more ILB. I talked this morning to a guy who is cut from the Ian Gold mold: Lawrence Timmons from Florence, South Carolina.

Linebacker Lawrence Timmons (6-1, 220 lbs., 4.55 in the 40) from Florence, S.C., Wilson is The Insiders' #21 Atlantic Area prospect. I started out by asking him if it is true that Michigan is recruiting him.

"Yes sir. Eric Campbell (Michigan's ACC-area recruiter) came to my school this spring. Coach Campbell talked to Coach Page (Wilson HS's head coach) and told him I could have a scholarship to Michigan. Coach Campbell also called me on the phone in May.

Who all has offered you?

"South Carolina, Clemson, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee."

You went to the Miami Nike Camp? What were your stats?

"Yes sir. I measured 6-1, 221 lbs. I ran a 4.56 second 40, did 21 bench press reps (185 lbs.), and had a 32 inch vertical jump. I also went to the Miami summer camp, but Miami has not offered me a scholarship."

Do you have a top five?

"Yes ... Miami, Florida, Michigan, Maryland, and Tennessee. That's not in any order, and I don't really have a single favorite."

Do you plan to make an official visit to Michigan?

"Yes sir!"

What would you say is the main strength of your game? And your main weakness?

"My main strength is my speed. I also read the line well on running plays. I think I do pretty well at all aspects. But if I had to pick a weakness I'd say covering the pass -- I do alright at it but I could do better."

When do you start practice?

"Our summer camp starts August 1st. Then regular practice starts August 4th."

As a junior linebacker Timmons made 95 tackles; on offense as a wide receiver, he had 42 catches for 690 yards and 14 touchdowns.
