Just days after his hire as Michigan’s defensive coordinator, Don Brown is already making an impact in U-M’s 2016 recruiting class.
Brown, who was Boston College’s defensive coordinator for the past thee seasons, reached out to Detroit King standout Lavert Hill for the first time today, and the four-star cornerback had nothing but positive things to say about U-M’s latest hire.
“It’s pretty good, I had just talked to him today and he sounded pretty excited to be coaching at Michigan,” Hill said of Brown, adding: “When he was at Boston College they had the No. 1 defense in the country. So him coming to Michigan, I think they are going to do pretty good.”
And what was Brown’s message to Hill?
“He just told me he heard a lot of great things about me,” Hill said of conversation with Brown. “He would like me to go to Michigan.”
Now that Brown has connected with Hill, the four-star standout says he would “probably” visit after U-M’s bowl game, although no set plans have been made yet.
“We haven’t got that far yet,” Hill said of meeting Brown for in-home visit. “He just told me ‘happy holidays’ and stuff like that. He just talked to me on the phone.”
However, when Michigan lines up to play Florida on New Years Day in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, Hill admits he will be keeping a special eye on the Wolverines defense.
“I will be watching the defense,” he said. “Just looking for great defense. I hope they do good.”
It was earlier reported that Hill would be announcing his commitment on Jan. 9, 2016, in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. However, his set announcement date has since changed, says Hill.
“I will be making commitment on signing day (Feb.3),” said Hill.
In the meantime, Hill has official visits set up with USC (Jan. 15), Michigan State (Jan. 22) and newly added Miami (Fla.) (Jan. 29) before making his commitment known.
“I just want to checkout the coaches and the atmosphere at these schools, and build a good relationship with them,” Hill said of his upcoming visits.
