Devin Gil eager to further relationship with U-M DC Don Brown

Michigan commit Devin Gil discusses his impression on new defensive coordinator Don Brown, gearing up to play with his teammates in Ann Arbor and more

Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanagan senior outside linebacker and Michigan commit, Devin Gil was eager to step into Wolverine defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin’s defense since he committed back in June. However, that all changed when news broke of Durkin’s departure to Maryland.
What did Jim Harbaugh do? He hired one of the best defensive minds in the college ranks in Boston College defensive coordinator Don Brown, a hire he certainly approves of.
“I love it,” Gil told the Michigan Insider. “I can’t wait for him to coach us because of how many athletes we have on the defensive side.”
The talented Sunshine State linebacker recently spoke with Brown and is now looking forward to getting to know him even more once he visits in January.
“I talked to (Brown) just a little on Twitter," Gil said. "I’ll be speaking to him more when we go up there on January 15th. I’m very excited for the visit and I miss it.”
“I really love him and he had the best defense last year, so I see big things for us.”
Once Gil arrives on campus to begin his career with the Wolverines, he won’t be alone with his teammates in senior safety Josh Metellus slated to be coming as well as linebacker Devin Bush, who will be enrolling early.
“It’s great,” Gil said. “It is the best feeling ever because all we do is win. It’s time to make history at Michigan now.”
Gil has continued working on his body and game weeks after winning a state championship. He hopes the early preparation and work he is putting him now will greatly benefit him down the road when he enters fall camp as a freshman.
“I’m getting smarter, bigger, faster and stronger,” said Gil. “I’m working out, running and working on my explosion. I have seen improvement too."
