Michigan Enters Race for Florida Speed Rusher

Newest Wolverine defensive coordinator Don Brown has an idea of what he wants in his defense. One of the prospects he grew fond of during his time at Boston College was Miami (Fla.) Christopher Columbus senior defensive end Joshua Uche and it didn’t take long for Brown to target this Sunshine State explosive defensive lineman in Ann Arbor.

Michigan announced its hiring of Don Brown as defensive coordinator in December. It didn’t take Brown very long to reconnect with a target that he coveted during his days at Bostin College in Miami (Fla.) Christopher Columbus senior defensive end Joshua Uche.
With that new connection in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines have now become a new contender in Uche’s recruitment.
“Coach Don Brown is the one who offered me and I was pretty excited about it,” Uche told The Michigan Insider. “I wasn’t expecting it since I hadn’t talked to them much. He offered me at Boston College, so I have talked with him before. It does interest me with him there. I’m just truly appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of such a prestigious program.”
The Sunshine State three-star speed rusher has built a strong relationship with Brown. He's been impressed with his coaching pedigree and character.
“He’s a defensive minded coach and is the best at what he does,” said Uche. “He has a lot of experience under his belt. Someone that is very easy to talk to. Really nice guy and very genuine."
With not much knowledge of the Wolverines, the 6-3, 215-pound speed rusher does admit that he needs to learn more about them, but is very familiar with the headman himself, Jim Harbaugh and his coaching success.
“I know that Coach Harbaugh came from the NFL to Michigan and he is going to turn them into a dynasty,” sad Uche. “I’m still thinking about the opportunity there. That would be pretty cool (to play for a former NFL coach) because he knows what it takes to get to the next level and I’m sure he has some NFL connections too.”
With an offer in hand, Uche now confesses to having strong interest in the Wolverines and plans to officially visit Ann Arbor this month. However, once he does take that visit, he looks to find out more about their new look defense and academics.
“(My interest) is high,” said Uche. “I like their top-tier education and they are an upcoming football program. I am taking an official visit to Michigan on January 22nd. I still want to find out their education and their defensive scheme and if I would succeed in it or not.”
Despite his newfound interest in U-M, Uche isn’t ready to claim any leaders, but does know what he wants in his ultimate school.
"I’m looking for a school with a really good football program and a really good education,” said Uche. “I just want to have a really great college career and have a successful college experience.”
