SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Detroit (Mich.) King cornerback LaVert Hill is making his college decision – eventually – but it won’t be at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl this week.
On Monday, Hill said he hadn’t made up mind yet on whether he would announce his commitment on Saturday or not. However, today he confirmed with The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb of his new intention.
Hill, who has already been on official visits to Michigan Wolverines and Tennessee, says he's pondering over his final officl visit this month.
“I am going to Michigan State for sure, USC, I’m trying to get this last one,” he said. “It’s between Clemson, Miami (Fla.) or UCLA.”
Adding: “(I am looking) for a good atmosphere and relationship with the coaches,” Hill said on his factors in his decision. “Just see if my mom likes it.”
Clemson is one team that has come on as of late, says HiIl.
“I was talking to them pretty good. I was talking to their (defensive back) coach,” Hill said of Clemson, adding on possible visit: “Probably, I got to talk to my mom.”
That being said, Michigan still remains the leader in most experts eyes, as Hill spoke of the Wolverines with Scout.com’s Greg Powers on Monday.
“Michigan is always going to be Michigan,” Hill told Powers. “Coach (Jim) Harbaugh, I talk to him a lot. And then there is coach (Mike) Zordich the corners coach and coach (Greg) Jackson the safeties coach, just talking to them and seeing they got Don Brown (U-M’s new defensive coordinator), I had a chance to talk to him too. Everything is just falling into place, so that’s pretty good.”
Hill had more to say about Brown’s hire at U-M.
“The day he got hired I spoke to him, he hit me up on Twitter,” Hill said on Brown. “He said he was looking forward to meeting me and stuff. So that’s pretty good.”
Also, Harbaugh himself reassured Hill that Michigan’s top-five defense was going to stay the same schematically.
“Coach (Jim) Harbaugh told me they were still going to remain the same defense,” Hill said.
Hill’s brother, Delano Hill, just finished his junior season at safety for the Wolverines. So, Hill obviously has an inside scoop on what Michigan has to offer, specifically info on DB coaches Zordich and Jackson.
“He just told me they make the whole team better,” Hill said. “They are helping them pretty good, like their (defensive backs) and their defense.”
“My brother and J.D. (Jourdan Lewis) told me it was going to get real this year. So I believed them.”
Hill says he hasn’t planned his next visit to U-M’s campus.
“It really don’t matter, because I visit up there all the time,” Hill said of his next U-M visit. “I’m probably going to visit again soon.”
National signing day is on Feb. 3.
