ORLANDO, Fla. – Five-star 2017 cornerback DeAngelo Gibbs has his list of schools to choose from.
Already, he holds notable offers from Clemson, Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State among others.
So, yeah, he’s a wanted man.
Well, you can add the Michigan Wolverines to the list of schools in hot pursuit of Gibbs, who stars at Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge High. In fact, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has personally made it point to tell Gibbs how much he wants him in U-M’s 2017 class.
“Coach Harbaugh, matter of fact, he told me himself personally,” Gibbs recalled. “He said ‘I want to coach you. I need to coach you.’
“Michigan I think overall is a great program. They are always running in the top-25. They are always playing against the best. It’s just a great school, a great tradition, and a great program. I think Jim Harbaugh is going to change it around.”
With Harbaugh making a strong push, Gibbs says a visit to Ann Arbor, Mich., is likely this this summer.
“I will take my time to go through the process,” Gibbs said of his recruitment. “I’m going to make sure I get on (U-M’s) campus sometime this summer and see how it goes.I might like it up there. Does it feel good to me? Did I fit in there? Things like that.”
Adding: “One of the biggest rivalries is between Ohio State and Michigan,” Gibbs said. “So that’s a big game to play in of course. (Michigan) produces a lot of great players. They are an up and coming program as far as keeping things in line and stuff like that, I just to get on campus and see how it goes.”
Gibbs has already been on campus visits to Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Georgia Tech to name a few, but did say he would make farther trips once his school year concluded.
“I’ve been mostly around SEC (schools), because the amount of time I get in the summer I’ll be going on farther visits,” he said.
Gibbs says he plans to announce on national signing day 2017.
