HIS RECRUITING STORY
Hailing as the best wide reciver in the state of New Jersey, the Michigan coaching staff made the Garden State a priority during the 2016 class. Mitchell was one the players that the Wolverines recruited heavily as it covets size and speed on the outside. Mitchell would commit to the Wolverines in August in a lavish commitment announcement. He has also been a heavy recruiting presence on social media as well.
"Mitchell is a long and athletic, and gets down the field well. He has good hands and knows how to use his body to gain position against smaller defensive backs. He comes out of breaks well but needs to be a bit more precise in his route running. He is a tremendous competitor, and it shows when the ball is in the air. He high-points the ball, and doesn't mind going over the middle. He can be a possession receiver, or a big play guy." -- Brian Dohn
"It came down to home feel, love the coaching staff there. They're going to put me in a position to further my career, going into the NFL and things like that which is a dream for all players going into college football. Also have an opportunity to come in and play young and you get a great degree from Michigan also."
Like most of the early enrollees on campus already, Ahmir Mitchell's chances to contribute early are good. Having an offseason of strength and conditioning training under his belt will be important for him. As there's always a need for speedy playmakers on both side of the balls, we could see whether Mitchell is ready to contribute in the spring.
