Warren (Mich.) De La Salle 2017 running back Allen Stritzinger has continued to build his relationship with Michigan's coaching staff since receiving an offer from the Wolverines last April.

On Saturday, the four-star talent took in a campus visit at U-M, which gave him another opportunity to bond with his main recruiter – Michigan running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley.

“It was a chance for me to get more 1-on-1 time with him,” Stritzinger said of his visit with Wheatley. “I got there early and we had a chance to talk about a lot of different things. … It gave us a chance to talk about different things as far as the game, and how the season went, what they are looking for next season, things like that.”

In fact, Stritzinger’s bond with Michigan is so strong, he informed The Michigan Insider that U-M is now his leader in his recruitment.

“I have a leader right now as far as a school I would like to go to -- and that’s Michigan right now,” Stritzinger said. “But I’m still weighing out my options, I don’t want to rush into it.”

Why is Michigan Stritzinger’s leader?

“Because it’s the school that I keep the most contact with,” Stritzinger said. “Other schools I do keep in contact with, but not as much as I do with Michigan.”

With Michigan now in the lead, Stritzinger says MSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Indiana are also sticking out in his recruitment.

However, the chance to play running back and cornerback at U-M is something Stritzinger is considering heavily.

“(Wheatley) still on me about playing running back,” Stritzinger said. “But a lot of kids who are in the position to play both ways, and after seeing how Jabrill (Peppers) was used this year as an athlete, that’s what I’m looking at. That’s the same thing that I want to be, to be out on both sides of the ball. Anyway I can to get on the field.”

Adding: “That just showed me there that they are not afraid to get their play makers on the field at all times. They get them in, and that’s what I like, they make sure they get their best players in.”

Stritzinger says along with Wheatley, he’s been in contact with U-M coach Jim Harbaugh and the rest of staff on a consistent basis.

“I keep in contact with all the coaching staff,” Stritzinger said. “It’s not just the coordinator in my area, it’s all of them. I talk to coach Harbaugh and all of the coaches. I keep more contact with coach Wheatley because that’s my position coach. But other than, I keep in contact with everybody else as well.”

And his next step with Michigan is to come up to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a spring practice visit.

“I want tot be able to get up there for some practices once springtime comes around,” Stritzinger said. “I want to get in on the inside and see how the practices operate, talk to some players on the team. Get a little further into it, I want to be able to start meeting everyone that I can so I can better look at the football aspect of it.”

Stritzinger plans to visit Indiana on Feb. 20 and Syracuse on Feb. 27. He also noted that he is trying to get up to Michigan State for a basketball game.

As far as a decision timeline, he says it should happen next fall.“I already got it planned out, probably sometime during my senior year, either in the beginning or the middle,” Stritzinger said. “It all depends on the school, anything can happen with camp season coming up. With junior days coming up, more offers might be on the table. I want to still weigh out my options.”
