2017 Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett three-star defensive tackle opens up about his new Michigan offer and more.

2017 Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett three-star defensive tackle Emmanuel McNeil opens up about his new Michigan offer, visit plans and timeline for a decision.

Michigan's focus on the 2017 class is high as the Wolverines continue to send out offers all over the country.

One of the newest recipients of a Michigan offer is Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett three-star defensive tackle Emmannuel McNeil.

"It really hit me out of the blue cause I hadn't really heard anything from Michigan and with them just coming out and offering me, it was just like, wow," McNeil told The Michigan Insider.

"I was in weight lifting for one of my classes, I was lifting, and my coach called me out into his office. He told me Michigan had offered me."

The conversation between the Wolverines and McNeil has yet to really begin at this point, but the versatile pass rusher explains there's already some understanding of the program up in Ann Arbor.

"I don't know that much about Michigan cause I'm from down south," McNeil said. "We really watch a lot of SEC schools and stuff. I see Michigan every once in a while, like I catch a couple of their games.

"I watched the Michigan and Michigan State game, which didn't end up working out too well for Michigan because of the punt. But I feel like they fought hard to still try to get that win."

At 6-foot-3, 280-pounds, McNeil himself is coming off an impressive season as well.

"Last season I felt it was one of my better seasons that I've had because I felt like I improved way more on some techniques," he said.

"I was flying off the ball faster, getting quick hands and getting a player off me so I can make a play."

Unable to decide whether or not he prefers the interior of the defensive line or out on the edge at the college level, McNeil says there is one player he patterns his game after.

"I've really been following Jadeveon Clowney," he said. "Not really before that one hit he had against Michigan but just really cause he's a fast player, I like the way he plays. He has his head on a swivel and is just ready to attack and I feel like I'm that person."

McNeil plans on taking unofficial visits this summer leading up to his five official visits in the fall.

Planning to ride out his recruitment in an effort to see as many schools as possible, McNeil hopes to just find the right fit.

"Really it's just how a school is and me feeling like I'm at home when I go to that school," he said.  "I don't want to go to a school where I don't feel comfortable at all.

"Also, another thing would be the depth chart. I'm going to college to play football and not to stand on the sidelines and look pretty."
