With a handful of offers already for Independence (OR.) Central junior defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu, he was still looking for more and landed a big one recently from Michigan. He talks about his Wolverine offer, his thoughts on Tony Tuioti and more

Independence (Ore.) Central junior defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu has been interested in for quite some time, hoping to earn a scholarship offer from Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Earlier this week, that came to fruition as defensive line coach Greg Mattison and new director of player personnel Tony Tuioti extended an offer.

“Well, my coach called them,” Tuipulotu told The Michigan Insider. “We talked to Coach Tuioti and Coach Mattison and thats when they told me.

"I was just exited that they offered. They were just saying they were excited to recruit me. They were also telling me a little bit about Michigan as well.”

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive lineman spoke at length with Tuioti, a person he connected with right away, looking to build a further bond with.

“Seems like a great coach and person,” Tuipulotu said. “Talking to him got me fired up about Michigan. It was awesome, but I still need to know him a lot more.

"He told me some of his background like he coached at the Cleveland Browns two years and University of Hawaii before that.”

With an offer now in hand from the Wolverines and strong interest as well, Tuipulotu hopes to get out to Ann Arbor sooner than later.

“I was just really excited about (the offer),” said Tuipulotu. “I’m very interested in Michigan. Like I said before, they are a great football program and have a bunch of talented athletes on their team.

"That’s the goal (to visit Michigan). I would have to talk with my family to see if I can be able too.”

Despite the early offers and interest all over the country, Tuipulotu is not ready to name any favorites in his recruitment just yet.

“No, I don’t have a top list,” he said. “I’m open as of right now.”
