Wolverine Offer “Means A Lot” To Jashawn Sheffield

With his high school career just beginning, Saint Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy 2019 athlete Jashawn Sheffield’s athleticism and size has colleges already interested. One of those schools would be Michigan, who extended an offer. He talks about his latest and more.

Saint Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy 2019 athlete Jashawn Sheffield might have only been in high school for a year, but he’s already one of the top upcoming prospects in the nation. Holding several early offers, he picked up another big offer recently from the Wolverines and their headman himself, Jim Harbaugh.

“(Running Backs) Coach (Tyrone) Wheatley talked to me for a little bit last night and this morning,” Sheffield told The Michigan Insider. “He let me talk to (Head) Coach (Jim) Harbaugh this morning. He offered me. I was really excited. Shocked that I was talking to him. I met him last year when I went to South Florida for the camp. I shook his hand and now I just talked to him on the phone. He is a great coach and his name speaks for itself. It means a lot. I'm blessed. I can't believe it's all happening so fast.”

With the offer from Michigan, the 6-2, 175-pound Peach State standout is excited to start the recruiting process with U-M, especially with running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley.

“I'm very interested (in U-M,)” said Sheffield. “I want to learn more about them. I watch Michigan highlights of some of the greats. Coach Wheatley highlights are crazy. It was my first time talking with him yesterday. He had talked to Coach Mathis the most, but I like him and he seems like a lot of fun.”

This off-season, Sheffield hopes to see plenty of schools including U-M despite his hectic track schedule.

“I hope (to visit Michigan) during the spring or the summer,” said Sheffield. “I want to check everything out. No top list or anything. I like all of the schools that have offered me. It means a lot. I have so many places I want to visit so we will see. I plan on going to Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Georgia, and West Virginia. We are in track season and we have some meets on Saturdays. I want to get to those hopefully over the spring and summer. It's a lot but we will see if we can get it done.”
