“The visit was great,” Johnson said. “There was lot of excitement from the coaches. It was a great atmosphere. It felt good being there. Michigan is definitely at the top of my list right now.”
Johnson, who stands at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, already holds notable offers from Kentucky, Louisville and Cincinnati. He has been on a campus visit to nearby Ohio State, but the Buckeyes have yet to offer. He also plans to see Tennessee and Iowa State in the coming weeks.
However, Michigan is the leader in the clubhouse at the moment. Why is U-M sticking out in his recruitment? Well, it was his latest visit on Saturday when he had a chance to see how the coaching staff works with the players, he said.
“I love their atmosphere. It feels like home the coaches are very down to earth," Johnson said of Michigan. “I've talked to (defensive coordinator) Don Brown, (assistants) Jay Harbaugh, Greg Mattison, Michael Zordich and Kevin Tolbert, they were all good guys and was very energetic. I also talked to coach (Jim) Harbaugh.”
Johnson says he plans to attend Michigan’s annual spring game on April 1, with the idea of seeing how coach Brown runs his defense.
“I’ll be checking out their defensive schemes they run,” Johnson said.
