Ryan Gersonde grew up most of his life in Australia, but moved his freshman year to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For Gersonde, it was a big and tough transition at the beginning. However, one thing that stayed constant in his life was kicking. Many programs have already begun taking notice of this elite specialist including Michigan, where he recently took a visit that the enjoyed.
“The visit was great,” Gersonde told The Michigan Insider. “They gave us a tour of the football facilities, the Big House and we got to watch some of practice. We also got a tour of the business school as I am interested in studying business. After that I spoke with a couple of the coaches.”
The 6-4, 180-pound strong legged punter/kicker talked with many members of the coaching staff during his visit including getting to connect with another Australian native in former Wolverine punter, Blake O’Neill.
“I talked with (Head) Coach (Jim) Harbaugh, (Tight Ends) Coach Jay Harbaugh, (Linebackers) Coach (Chris) Partridge and (Defensive Line) Coach (Greg) Mattison,” said Gersonde. “I also talked to Blake O’Neill. The coaches pretty much said Michigan is a special place in football and academics. They also said that they look forward to having me out there for there summer specialist camp. Blake was great. We got along very well since we have that Australian connection. He said it's a great place with awesome fans and top notch coaching.”
After seeing Ann Arbor for the first time and getting to listen to the coaches, it is a place Gersonde now could imagine himself playing.
“Very interested (in Michigan,)” said Gersonde. “The people were great and I really loved the campus. It would mean a great deal to me (if they offered). To be able to punt in front of 110,000+ fans while getting a top tier education would be awesome.”
