Michigan welcomed prospects from far and wide to it's spring game and junior day last weekend. Among those that traveled the farthest to get there was Mustang (Okla.) junior defensive tackle Deontre Thomas. He left Ann Arbor extremely impressed.
“The visit was something unforgettable,” Thomas told The Michigan Insider. “It doesn’t get better than Michigan. I hung out with some of the players at the mall and went to a few different places on campus. Spending great quality time with the coaches and seeing the facilities was the highlight of my visit. The placing and the style of everything with the facilities stood out. I also can’t forget the BBQ. The BBQ tasted like no other.”
While the 6-3, 275-pounder's increased appreciation for the cuisine was important, but his increased comfort with the coaching staff was certainly more so.
“I talked to all the coaches (laughter), but mainly Coach Greg (Mattison) and Coach Rick (Finotti),” said Thomas. “They were just telling me how excited they are about me. Honestly, I like all the coaches. I feel like they can be trusted because of their great personalities.”
At the moment Michigan is one member of Thomas' 13-deep offer list that also includes Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Arizona State. Now that he's seen the Maize & Blue the Jim Harbaugh's program is much stronger threat to win the talented youngster's services.
“My options are still completely open, but I’m definitely leaning towards Michigan,” said Thomas. “I just like the coaches, facilities, weather, and that its in the Big Ten.”
