Back in October, Ligonier (Pa.) Valley 2017 athlete Collin Smith was not a hot commodity on the recruiting trail, but then a received some shocking news when he learned that he had landed a big offer from the Wolverines. The under-the-radar versatile standout recently traveled up to Ann Arbor for their spring game, which exceeded his expectations.
“It was awesome,” Smith told The Michigan Insider. “I got to meet with a lot of the coaching staff and talk to them and also got to go to the spring game. The spring game was great. Michigan’s fan base is unlike any other and it was also a pretty exciting game.”
The 6-0, 196-pound Smith also got to a few coaches on the defensive side of the ball and where he fits into the Maize & Blue defense.
“I got to talk to (Defensive Back) Coach (Brian) Smith and (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Don) Brown and they just told me about the defense and how they would use me and also how they like my style of play and how they are going to see me more throughout the spring.”
Despite having no top list, Smith views the Wolverines very highly after his trip.
“I’m very interested in Michigan,” said Smith. The tradition is unbelievable and they have a great coaching staff.”
