At the time of his commitment, McCaffrey said one of the reasons behind him committing so early was his plan to to lure top talent to join him at Michigan in this years 2017 class. One target in particular – Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2017 wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones – has been a major target for McCaffrey since his commitment.
“He has reached out to me,” Peoples-Jones said of McCaffrey. “I took notice of the commitment (to U-M). It was surprising to me that they got a really good quarterback that really sets the bar for all recruitment. You have a strong quarterback; you (can) build around him. That definitely made a statement for Michigan.”
Adding: “I think it’s really good for them to have a guy like him come in. He’s a really good guy. I’ve been talking to him on Twitter. We’re developing a relationship.”
That being said: Is Peoples-Jones looking at each schools quarterback depth chart? Will having a particular quarterback affect his recruitment?
“I’m not basing my commitment off of that,” Peoples-Jones said. “It’s definitely a factor. It’s like going to the NFL, you’re playing with Tom Brady or you’re playing with another quarterback. You want to play around good players that are going to bring out the best in you. It’s definitely a factor.”
Despite Michigan having McCaffrey, Peoples-Jones says there is still no change in his recruitment.
“I’m really not confident in any school right now or I would have made a commitment by now,” Peoples-Jones said. “So I am still open with all schools and trying to learn as much information as I can right now.”
Peoples-Jones has not set a time for his commitment announcement.
