First Offer From U-M Leaves Jones 'Speechless'

The state of Alabama has been a point of emphasis for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. A number of offers have been extended out with the latest offer coming to Norport (Ala.) Tuscaloosa County High 2018 outside linebacker Jacquez Jones. He talks about landing his offer from the Wolverines, any plans on heading up to Ann Arbor and more

Northport (Ala.) Tuscaloosa County High 2018 outside linebacker Jacquez Jones was a force on the defensive side of the ball last season recording 100 tackles, 12 sacks and three interceptions. With his stellar sophomore campaign, several schools started to take notice including the Wolverines.

“I found out first about the Michigan offer (Tuesday) afternoon my high school coach Bart Sessions told me to give one of the Michigan coaches a call,” Jones told The Michigan Insider. “They put me on the phone with the linebackers coach and he was telling me about the campus and how great it is in Ann Arbor and at the end he offered me the scholarship. My reaction was that I was speechless. It's my first offer period and for it to come from Michigan, I couldn't believe it.”

The 6-0, 225-pound physical linebacker was in a total state of shock landing an offer from the Maize and Blue and now has very strong interest in them.

“Michigan is one of those dream schools to receive an offer from and with it being my first offer I am highly interested,” said Jones. “What I like about Michigan is I love watching them play and the coaches from talking to them I feel like family. I can definitely see myself there.”

Ann Arbor is also a place he definitely plans to check out.

“Yes, I do (plan to visit) hopefully this year,” said Jones. “My family and I will take the drive to Michigan and take an unofficial visit.”

Jones is a recruit still flying very much the under the radar, but his game is one many love because of his relentless and aggressive approach.

“I'm a get after the ball type guy," said Jones. "If its chasing down the quarterback for a sack or running down the running back 20+ yards down the field, I’m going to be there in on the play."
