One of the top standouts at the Dallas Opening back in March was Grand Prairie (Tex.) South sophomore safety Atanza Vongor. The athletic defensive back displayed his size and frame to show he has the potential to be a highly coveted recruit.
Vongor only held one offer from Texas A&M, however that quickly changed when he added his second offer from Michigan after talking with Wolverine defensive line coach Greg Mattison this week.
“Coach Greg Mattison came out to our period of weight room workout and my head coach, Coach Whitson, came up to me and said that he wanted to get me Coach Mattison's number so I could call him because they want to offer me,” Vongor told The Michigan Insider. “He asked me about my family, tried to get to know me and a little about what I would play if I went there. I was just thankful that God would bless me with the opportunity to play for a prestigious college like Michigan. I’m grateful and thankful to be offered by a school such as Michigan.”
While it was the first time 6-1, 192-pound Vongor got to chat with Coach Mattison, he really connected and made a great first impression.
“He's seemed like a great coach,” said Vongor. “It seems like he really cares about his players even past football players and I want to go somewhere where the entire coaching staff is like that.”
Could Vongor possibly head up to Ann Arbor for a visit?
"Hopefully,” said Vongor of visiting Michigan. “When I talked to Coach Mattison, he said they'll be working on setting something up to get me up there. I just want to learn more of how I would fit in the defense.”
Vongor currently has no top list with his recruitment
