WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Saturday, Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette 2017 offensive tackle Jedrick Wills came to Nike’s Opening Regional to showcase his talent.
However, the event also gave Scout.com’s No. 5 OT an opportunity to update his recruitment, as he spoke to The Michigan Insider on his latest talks with U-M's coaching staff.
“I talked to a few of the coaches who are recruiting my area,” Wills said. “And they just tell me how important I am to their offense. How much they need me to get on campus and get a feel for things, rather than them just coming and telling me about it.”
And it’s not just one U-M coach who is talking to Wills either.
“I have been talking to coach (Tim) Drevno and coach (Michael) Zordich, who came to visit me a couple days ago,” Wills said. “Coach (Jim) Harbaugh sends me (pointers) and (direct messages) and things like that, just developing a relationship with them, and coming down to visit and them showing me around.”
Of U-M’s coaches, Drevno has made the strongest push to get Wills to join Michigan’s 2017 class.
“He wants me to come in and definitely play for Michigan,” Wills said of Drevno. “He wants me to get into the offense, he says I would fit in great into it. He thinks Michigan is the place for me, and he wants to get me there.”
And when Wills finally makes his way up to Michigan’s campus, he admits he has to see a few of U-M’s more iconic athletic facilities.
“Everybody always talks about how big the stadium is and the weight room, how magnificent that is, I just want o get up there and see if it meets my expectations I have for it,” Wills said of hi impending visit to U-M.
“Everybody always talks about the great relationship they build with the coaches, I want to go up there and get a good feel for that too.”
Besides Michigan, Wills says he plans on checking out LSU, Georgia, Alabama (again), Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan State, Florida and Florida State this summer. He noted if possible, he would like to make his final decision at the end of the summer as well.
