Cameron Colvin on Henne Commitment

I spoke with De La Salle High School (Concord, Calif.) standout wide receiver Cameron Colvin Sunday night, here's what he had to say about the verbal commitment of Chad Henne.

Cameron Colvin (STAN Nike stats: 6-1, 188 lbs., 4.31 in the 40, 3.85 shuttle, 32.4 inch vertical, 13 bench press reps. … 2.3 GPA/16 ACT) Colvin is the 16th ranked player in the country, and number 2 on the West Coast according to The Insiders. I wanted to find out his thoughts on the recent verbal commitment to U-M of Chad Henne. When I first called I talked to Colvin's Godfather, Jay Lightner, who informed me that Colvin was away working out with former Cal coach Roger Theder, who coaches many of the top quarterbacks in the country. So why was Colvin working out with Theder? Is the talented receiver now going to try his hand at the QB position? "Roger is coaching (De La Salle) QB Kevin Lupina, and Kevin asked Cameron to help him. They've been working together all summer." Lightner said.

Mr. Lightner also told me that Colvin's hard work during summer school has been paying off, "He got an 'A' in his English class, he was the top student in his class this summer in English. He'll take his Spanish final next week so we'll know how things are after that." Lightner beat me to the punch when he brought up the subject of U-M's recent QB commit, "We heard that Michigan got a commitment from Henne. Cameron was talking about it and he's excited."

There was also a brand new offer, "Oklahoma had told us they were going to evaluate Cameron this season then decide if they wanted to offer, but I guess they couldn't wait because they just offered him last week."

Just then Colvin walked in from his workout and I was able to chat with him myself.

You've been working out with Roger Theder over the summer, how is that going?

"He's actually coaching Kevin Lupina, our quarterback, and Kevin asked me to come out and help. It's been fun, Roger is a great guy, I also get to see a lot of the top QB's, Drew Olsen from UCLA was by today and I got to catch some balls with him, he's got a strong arm."

Can you comment on the recent verbal commitment of QB Chad Henne?

"Yeah, I was waiting to see what he was going to do, whether he was going to commit to Penn State or Michigan. I'm glad he committed to Michigan, that puts them sky high on my list."

Have you seen Henne play?

"I haven't seen him in person but I've watched some of his video and he looks real good."

Does this change your timetable at all?

"No, I'm still going to take my time. I just got an offer from Oklahoma, they were going to wait but decided to go ahead and offer me."

Can you update me on your top list?

"Michigan, Miami, LSU, UCLA, and Oklahoma. Michigan is still number one and I'm excited they have such a lineup at quarterback." Colvin will be visiting Michigan on Sept. 13 for the Notre Dame game.
