ADDISON, Ill. – If Missouri native Michael Thompson Jr. was unknown before Saturday’s Nike Opening Regional combine, then afterwards he left little doubt he’s an elite football player amongst his peers.
At 6-foot-4, 266-pounds, Thompson dominated the talented group of lineman he performed with throughout day. While he didn’t earn an Opening invite, the St. Louis (Mo.) Parkway North standout firmly cemented himself as of one of the top D-lineman in the 2018 class.
“I feel like I performed well,” Thompson said afterwards. “I did pretty good in the 1-on-1s and did pretty good in testing.”
Though his response was modest at best, he certainly is name to remember moving forward.
As far as his recruitment is concerned, Thompson says Michigan is his early leader right now in the clubhouse.
“The offer came like two weeks ago, my coach told me” Thompson said of his offer from U-M. “Michigan is probably on top right now.”
Why is Michigan on top? What stands about the Wolverines? Well, one particular reason, Thompson says.
“I like Michigan’s coach Jim Harbaugh,” Thompson said.
Adding: “I want to meet their coaches. I want to have a chance to talk to all of their coaches and meet them.”
Other than having good coaches, Thompson says his No. 1 factor in a program is: “winning.”
Besides the Wolverines, Thompson’s other notable offers include Louisville, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri.
